O ensaio analisa o documentário Esquadrões da Morte: a Escola francesa (2003), da cineasta francesa Marie-Monique Robin. A proposta analítica volta-se para três questões fundamentais que serão desenvolvidas a partir da fundamentação teórica, metodologia e técnica de análise: as origens da guerra revolucionária, a tortura e o legado transmitido pela Escola militar francesa aos regimes totalitários constituídos na América Latina e interesses de guerra dos Estados Unidos. Teoricamente o ensaio ancora-se nos estudos sobre cinema e história; quanto à metodologia, seguem-se apontamentos fundamentados pela Escola dos Annales quanto à representação da imagem como fonte histórica; a técnica analítica está pautada na decupagem em diálogo com os agenciamentos produzidos pelas escolhas que constituem a montagem cinematográfica.

This essay analyzes the documentary Death Squads: the French School (2003), by Marie- Monique Robin. The analytical proposal turns to three key issues that will be developed from the theoretical foundations, methodology and analysis technique: the origins of the revolutionary war, torture and the legacy broadcast on French military school to totalitarian systems established in Latin America and American interests about war. Theoretically this study is based on film studies and history; as to the methodology, there are notes based on the Annales School about the representation of the image as a historical source; the analytical technique is centered in the shooting script in dialogue with the assemblages produced by the choices that compose the film editing.
