Este trabalho investiga possíveis remodelações do gênero romance no gênero romance gráfico. Unindo a metodologia bibliográfica ao estudo de caso, relaciona-se, primeiro, uma forma de conceber o romance, de linhagem marxista, dada por autores como Georg Lukács, Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno e Lucien Goldmann, com o histórico de surgimento e de consolidação do termo romance gráfico. Em seguida, analisa-se a obra Cachalote, de Daniel Galera e Rafael Coutinho. Com esse trabalho, percebe-se a forma do romance gráfico como expressão, no interior da arte sequencial, de um desalento típico do indivíduo moderno imerso no mundo capitalista. Através de estratégias multimodais, Cachalote associa-se com a fragmentação e a individualização comuns ao romance.

This paper studies how a graphic novel redesigns some aspects of the novel. Combining a bibliographic research and a case of study, this paper, first, compares a specific view of the novel, as developed by authors as Georg Lukács, Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno and Lucien Goldmann, with the emergence and consolidation history of the graphic novel. After that, the work Cachalote, by Daniel Galera and by Rafael Coutinho, is analyzed. The reflections made in this research show how the graphic novel can be seen as a way of expression, inside the sequential arts, for dealing with an emptiness that is typical of the modern capitalist world. Through multimodal strategies, Cachalote recollects the fragmentation and the individualization that are common to the novel.
