RESUMO: Os estudos de gênero têm incorporado cada vez mais pesquisas em torno de múltiplas subjetividades e de seus desdobramentos na ficção. Nestas investigações, em que se imbricam cultura, linguagem e identidade, pode-se destacar a projeção de um elemento comumente relegado a segundo plano nestes fóruns de discussão: a masculinidade. Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a constituição de masculinidades em Valmiki’s Daughter (2008), da escritora indocaribenha Shani Mootoo. Acredito que o romance abra caminho para uma crítica de gênero e suas interseccionalidades, focalizando a desconstrução de um ideal de masculino corporificado na figura do homem branco. Servirão de aporte teórico trabalhos de R. W. Connell, Judith Butler, entre outros.

ABSTRACT: Gender Studies have increasingly incorporated researches on multiple subjectivities and their development in fiction. In these investigations in which culture, language, and identity imbricate, one can point out that the commonly overlooked element of masculinity gains prominence in these forums of discussion. This paper aims to analyse the constitution of masculinities in Valmiki’s Daughter (2008) by the Indo-Caribbean author Shani Mootoo. I believe that this novel can be read from the perspective of gender criticism and its intersectionalities, with a focus on the deconstruction of the masculine ideal embodied by the Caucasian man. Works by R. W. Connell, Judith Butler, among others, will be the theoretical framework of my analysis.
