Monteiro Lobato leitor, crítico e tradutor de literatura francesa

RESUMO: Este artigo destaca o diálogo entre Monteiro Lobato e a literatura francesa de diferentes períodos. O interesse pelas obras francesas do autor de Urupês não se limitava aos romancistas do século XIX, mas se estendia aos autores do século XVII e XVIII como Madame de Sévigné, Restif de La Bretonne e Marquês de Sade. O gosto eclético de Lobato é visto também em suas traduções do francês. Neste sobrevoo sobre seus comentários, às vezes irreverentes, sobre literatura francesa, desvendamos um crítico arguto, criativo e sem preconceitos.
ABSTRACT: This paper highlights the dialogue between Monteiro Lobato and the French literature from different periods. His interest in the French written works was not limited to the 19th century novelists, but it also extended to 17th and 18th century authors such as Madame de Sévigné, Restif de La Bretonne and Marquis de Sade. Lobato’s eclectic taste is also seen in his translations from French. In this tour d’horizon of his comments on French literature, which wereirreverent at times, we unveil a sharp-witted, creative and unprejudiced critic.
